In this image, i am unsure of who the photographer is as there isn't a clear reference on any website providing me with their details. However i chose this as i felt it fit perfectly along with my distorted emotions theme. To make this my own and add my own effect to it, i had the idea that there would be a number of different emotions on the floor that the person could choose from, and the she was stuck for choice on which too choose next. I feel this is what a lot of people do in society when around certain people or in certain situations, so some people could relate to this image.
Experimentation
Here are the images i took in the studio of my model to try and achieve this image. It was easy to photograph as all the tricky technical issues are yet to come in the Photoshop editing part. I will have to consider shadows, shading, making sure the image is sharp and cropped properly. I asked my model to pull more than one facial expression so that i could put them around the model like he had a choice of emotion. I also had him kneel and lean forwards as if he was to grab a face to pick up off the floor. Obviously, he had to imagine this, but it all still turned out really well.
I liked this image as it showed a different angle and position of the model rather than straight on. It also has a strong shadow with it that i can then place directly of the face i wish to put on it underneath so it appears more realistic. The only issue with this image may be that it could be hard to make the face on the floor look more realistic. I would have to place a shadow over the face which would have to be exact or it wont look realistic.
These images below show the emotions i asked my model to portray. I asked him to do emotions such as shocked, sad, happy, vague no expressions and others too. These are the best ones that i had took which show the best of each emotion i asked him. Each have there own weaknesses, for example on some of them, i imagine it might be difficult to to crop around it on Photoshop, making it look highly unrealistic. The second one looks quiet fake and put on, which will effect the way the image connects with the audience. If the image doesn't look natural then it will ruin the hole photo. On the other hand some of them are very strong and will work really well in the photo, like first one as it shows he is almost breathless.
This is my favorite image, as it allows you to put the face on the floor any where, and add a shadow if necessary for extra effect. It is also a good image as the positioning of his face is upwards which makes a lot easier when it comes to editing it and making it blank. It makes it seem like the person has an overpowering vibe about him as you see he is looking down at the camera grabbing something that would be right in the front of the camera. This is the image I will use in Photoshop when I am editing the face onto the floor.
This image is good as it shows his hole body showing the body language that he is wary of which one to choose. Of course, there is a lot of unwanted background but it can be easily cropped and adjusted. To improve it i could have got a little closer like the one above as i believe it would have made it better and more detailed for the viewer to imagine it.
Photoshop Edited Versions
To create these images i used a number of different tools which gave a number of different effects. To create the face with no features, i used the patch tool which allowed me to select a piece that i wanted to cover and replace it with a bit of skin that wasn't interrupted by a feature. Its difficult to make it all the same colour as if you select to much of a bit of skin you wish to replace your selected with, it could effect the hole of the face colouring that you have just edited. To crop the body and head out i used the polygonal lasso tool which got some of the smaller bits in his hair that where hard to erase with the normal rubber. It was also handy when cutting his face out as it cropped around the specif lines of his face to make it more accurate. For example his chin line up to his ear was a few straight lines, which this tool created easier than the rubber would due to its circle shape. The background i decided on is an off set white cream pink colour as i think it looks better than plain white. This is because the white made the shadows look a lot faker and the colour i have used is a little more engaging, subtle and relaxing than the bright bold white. When Photo shopping this piece together, the only part i found challenging was adding the shadow to make it look realistic. I tried many different attempts with the Photoshop using different tools to see which would be better. I also tried using the different body and a different facial expression so i could see what a variety looked like.

This was my second attempt which was a lot stronger than the first. The difference between the two is that instead of using the burn tool on such a high strength, i turned it down and only brushed across his face so it was the lightest shade. For the shadow under the face, I simply copied and pasted it, changed the exposure so that it went pure black and then changed the opacity of it. This looks a lot more realistic than the first and covers a wider scale, instead of just looking similar to a boarder around the face. I also added this same shadow technique to under the hand and legs of the body, as this image requires a lot of shadows for it to look the most effective. I also decided to do another version of the image where there is no shadow on the face, which i feel looks just as effective. The image with the shadow on the face makes the emotion on it look a lot more dramatic and will engage with the viewers thoughts on the issue more. These images do follow the rule of thirds as every feature is so dramatically place in the middle so that your eyes cannot escape it.The only fault i would suggest is that the faces look to placed on the image and very false looking.
